294 Billion Emails Are Sent Every Day

294 Billion Emails Are Sent Every Day

Both internet and email had the same military beginnings, so it sort of makes sense that the progress and growth of both would be somewhat like a marriage—a union of two people that met as childhood sweethearts if you will.

Today the internet has billions of users and those billions of users send billions of emails—294 emails, sent on a daily basis to be exact. This is what’s come out of a recent study conducted by Mbaonline and dubbed ‘A day in the internet’. The study revealed that the internet is abuzz with activity, so much so that the amount of data that gets consumed could fill 168 million DVDs.

Of course websites like Facebook account for a huge volume of that traffic and Mbaonline found that an average of 172 million different people visit the site each day. Such activity is also just one small part of what millions of people converge on the internet to do each day. Aside from posting status updates on Facebook and Twitter, people are watching videos, blogging and of course sending emails to their friends and family.

The facts and figures coming out of the study are of course good news for those that benefit directly from them. Marketers will be very happy to see that email is still a medium for passing information; this fact should also help revitalize the passion for email marketing.
